A poem I wrote sometime shortly before January, 2009

Charlie Parker

The Bird's notes
from the underground bar
write themselves in big curly-q letters
circling clouds of smoke
in what's left of the air.

Strumpet swirls and slinks about,
thinking bout
where (and who) to go after—

The nest is swarming.
Chicks dance swimmingly.
Men and women read aloud
their chosen interpretation—

What is it?
Fine. Furious. Flinching.
Free as can be—
dainty messages of love
on scented paper cocktails

Who's With Me?

The Republicans have the "Tea Party" trying to enact change and they have been quite successful as a Conservative movement. The Democrats need to have a similar group working toward a cause. Maybe we could call them the "Whiskey Rebellion" or something (although technically, that doesn't work perfectly because I think taxes are important, but we'll work on that).

Seriously, when is the last time you have taken action and worked for a cause? It's obvious how effective it can be. How many people could we get involved?

Politics

If anyone reads this and is a Republican who is savvy about politics, please help me. I really would love to get your perspective about Republican behavior of late. It seems very much like the Republicans in office only want to wield power and contradict Democrats when they really should be trying to work with others and do what is best for the country. I do not believe that they actually think what they are doing is best. How could they possibly? I understand that capitalism is important and that people want to hold onto what is theirs, and each man or woman for himself or herself, BUT...at some point, don't we all want to help out others who may be less fortunate?

I know our society is dead-set on isolation and greed, but politicians should be working with each other because they are the ones who are supposed to be representing average citizens. If the Republicans are representative of the citizens, then I am horrified. Democrats have plenty of bad behavior too, but they seem to try to take the higher road -- to everyone's detriment because nothing gets done -- by trying to work with Republicans.

Help me understand.

"This One's For You"--NKP

March 10, 2008

This One’s For You

This one goes out
to all the editors
whose pens are poised
at the bottom of an N
for Nicole. For No.

Rejected.
So sorry.
Try again.

The character I'm building
is too big for my novel
approach to esteem
that is running
out of steam.

A Warm Welcome To Me

I am transferring my poetry over here for easy reference. I guess no matter how much I hate a lot of what I write, looking back at old stuff is helpful.
